Innovation and Stuff

Since my college days I have been looking for some of the cool discoveries I have read or studied and have been sorely disappointed by the pace of progress. Do you share this opinion? So what is this blog about? This is an attempt to prove to myself through things that I have read or though my readers comments that some technical progress is being made in our country. So all innovative ideas in any area of science or industry are welcome.

What's new in Innovation

There is a new revolution happening in the world of lighting. LED lights to be exact. LED lights are small powerful light sources that give off mainly light and not much in the way of heat. So they don't require the huge amount of excess energy that conventional incandescent light bulb do. But people are saying that LED lights are not very good because they do not give off light in all directions like a conventional light bulb. So the debate goes that the compact fluorescents are better because they still conserve energy taking about a fourth the energy of a regular bulb for the same amount of light and they cost a lot less than the LED variety.

I personally favor the LED light because it operates on the principles of quantum mechanics. They also last a long time (6-10 years) and they take about 10th the energy of an incandescent light bulb not a fourth. There only real drawback right now is cost. What do you think?
