Innovation and Stuff

Since my college days I have been looking for some of the cool discoveries I have read or studied and have been sorely disappointed by the pace of progress. Do you share this opinion? So what is this blog about? This is an attempt to prove to myself through things that I have read or though my readers comments that some technical progress is being made in our country. So all innovative ideas in any area of science or industry are welcome.

Support from an unexpected source

Just wanted to drop a quick note. I was talking to a friend of mine who has been in the military, and he says it makes him cry when he thinks about how many good men have died fighting in Iraq during Desert Storm and the present conflict. This is not just a political battle. It is also protecting the oil fields and the investments the US has made in this region. He mentioned that there was a lot of talk about producing alternative fuels 15 years ago after Desert Storm but nothing ever materialized. So I can't think of a better way to save men, resources and money than to invest in alternative energy fuels. Let's make this a reality this time...

Hey I just saw an article this morning talking about how the higher price of gas is going to affect our suburbs. In fact the article is titled: "Could rising gas prices kill the suburbs?"

It is of interest because it mentions the fact that the price of a barrel of oil is expected to remain high at around 50 to 60 dollars per barrel and could go as high as 100 dollars a barrel. So what is this going to do to the suburbs? Well this article claims we might not want to live so far from our jobs. So the inner cities will be prime land for redevelopment into new city centers. One land developer in particular KB Homes is betting on this in LA and is putting in a 2-million-square-foot complex of luxury hotels and private residences close to downtown LA.

So if you think the high price of oil will not affect your life much, think again.

Well, we got some good news today that a terrorist plot was foiled that would have destroyed multiple planes bound for the US. Again one more reason to take the power and money out of the hands of the people doing the terrorism. If they don't have money, they can't make exotic explosives and buy lots of sophisticated weapons. So how do they get the majority of there money? Through oil profits.

Take some of the teeth out of there bite, and get on the alternative energy band wagon. Vote for people without ties to big oil. Let the Arab oil cartel sink back into the desert! Let’s get to energy independence again.

What if the Big Oil Companies created alternative fuels?

Hey I just had a great thought. What if the Big Oil companies initiated and funded research in the area of alternative fuels and produced some new fuels on there own. Wouldn't this be great? Then they would not have any drop in revenue if the concept of "Peak Oil" is correct. Then they would be leading the way for the future instead of pushing one fuel and dragging there heels. Then they could offer a choice to their patrons, those of us that believe we have an oil problem looming out on the horizon. Also they would have a broader base of income alternatives. It seems to me they have alot of resources in the form of cash profits they could apply to the problem right now. So why are they silent on these issues?

Hmm, If we only lived in a perfect world...
